Our Story

Welcome to The Lamb of Tartary, a new public house from the family behind the award-winning Edinburgh Castle. Nestled in the heart of the famous Northern Quarter, just five minutes from Manchester Piccadilly Train Station, our establishment infuses heritage and modernity to offer a refined and accessible addition to Manchester’s cultural and culinary scene.

Our roots trace back to the historic Cottonopolis site, from which we have inherited a legacy of craftsmanship and community spirit. Akin to our previous incarnation, our name pays homage to Manchester’s history. The tale that was once told said that lambs grew on trees and came from cotton plants. The Lamb of Tartary is born out of what Cottonopolis once cultivated.

Atmosphere

At The Lamb of Tartary, we take pride in offering an experience that rises above the ordinary. Step inside our historic Grade II-listed building and you’ll be greeted by the warm embrace of our cosy yet elegant atmosphere. Take in the ornate panelling and leafy green foliage. Glance up towards the beautiful terracotta-painted ceiling. Admire the faux windows and airy linen curtains. Nestle in one of our quartz-patterned booths.

Whether you’re seeking a leisurely lunch, a lively evening with loved ones or a place to unwind after a long day, The Lamb of Tartary beckons with open arms.

Food Offering

A culinary adventure awaits as we share our celebration of seasonal British dining. Developed by Manchester-based Executive Chef Shaun Moffat (Chef of the Year at the MFDF Awards), we offer menus to suit any occasion packed with bold tastes and inventive twists. Experience our All Day Dining, Brunch and Sunday Lunch/roast offerings, presenting elevated pub classics for any time of day. This new offering is a testament to our dedication to quality produce supplied by Wrights and Swaledale amongst others.

Beverage Offering

With 15 different beers on draft, 4 cask ales and of course, the perfect pint of Guinness, we’re easily your go-to for catch-up pints with friends or when searching, “beer near me”. We offer a fine array of wines and where cocktails are concerned, we do classics such as the Gimlet, Old Fashioned and the Sidecar as good as they get. True to our innovative ethos, we’ve developed an Espresso Martini with chocolate and orange and a Paloma made with Grapefruit and Rosemary Soda.

With a programme of reputable vinyl-only DJs throughout the week to pair your drinks to, you’ll feel compelled to stay for hours on end.
